The Northern Canada Producer Launcher (NCPL) is the first program of its kind developed exclusively for people living in the North who have never worked in, or have very little experience in, the film & TV industry and are interested in pursuing a career as a content producer. This program is designed to build capacity in the North by developing original ideas from residents in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut who have great content ideas and are interested in learning how to produce their stories. The NCPL is being produced by Access Canada, with generous support from the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Canada Northern Economic Development, The Northwest Territories Media Producers’ Association, and the Northwest Territories Film Commission.
The goal of the NCPL is to train Northern residents who have little to no experience in the film & tv industry but may be interested in pursuing a career as a content producer. The NCPL’s mission is to build the capacity of content industry professionals residing in the North. Up to ten (10) program participants will be selected via an application process. The selected participants will then take a series of in-person and virtual classes designed to walk them through the basics of producing, turning their idea into a viable television project. In addition to the virtual classes, participants will attend in-person meetings in Yellowknife on the first weekend of February 2025, and the first weekend in April 2025. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered as part of the program. Participants must be committed to prioritizing the virtual classes, meetings, and assignments within their schedules. The time commitment will be approximately 2 classes each week, lasting 1.5 - 2 hours each class, starting at approx. 5:30 pm on Monday & Wednesday evenings (exact time subject to change). At the end of the course, participants who completed the program will not only have a compelling package, but will know how and where to take the next steps to move their project forward.
The NCPL is open to all residents of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon. Applicants must have an idea for an unscripted / documentary / reality TV series they wish to pursue. Special consideration will be given to Indigenous applicants, though all projects and creators will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Attendance at both the in-person and virtual classes is mandatory. WIth the exception of the in-person components at the beginning and end of the program, all classes will be held online via Zoom. There will also be weekly assignments to be completed that will further the development of participants’ ideas into feasible projects. Applicants must be committed to the equity, diversity and inclusion of the program.
Interested applicants must apply through the portal from November 13 – December 15, 2024 to be considered.
